Miners rout Panthers for fourth straight win; move to fourth in GLVC standings
Haw
OWENSBORO, Ky. – Missouri S&T exploded in the second half with a four-goal outburst, leading it to a 5-0 win at Kentucky Wesleyan and vaulting the Miners into fourth place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings with four games to play.

The Miners posted their biggest goal output in a game since beating the Panthers 5-1 late in the 2003 season, allowing them to post their fourth straight victory. The current four-game winning streak is S&T’s longest since a six-game run to open the 2000 season.

S&T jumped on top nine minutes into the game on a goal by freshman Peter Haw and took that lead to the intermission. The Miners then extended the lead 10 minutes into the second half on Nico Solano’s second goal of the season.

The Miners then got goals in the final 17 minutes to play from Sam Shaffer, Mario Calderon and Zack Hay to reach the final margin.

Andy Held assisted on the first two S&T goals, then David Kekec, Tony Lambropolous and Spencer Brinkmeyer recorded the assists on each of the final three goals.

Missouri S&T outshot Kentucky Wesleyan 19-9 for the contest and Pat McNamee finished with five saves in goal to come away with his second straight shutout.

The win improved the Miners to 6-4-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the GLVC, moving them into fourth place in the league standings behind Drury, Northern Kentucky and Lewis heading into their final home weekend of the conference season.

S&T will host Bellarmine – the team immediately behind it in the standings -- Friday at 5 p.m., before Northern Kentucky pays a visit to the S&T Soccer Field next Sunday.
