Former S&T All-America Tyrone Smith competes at World Track Championships

BERLIN, Germany -- Tyrone Smith posted a top mark of 25-4 (7.72 meters) Thursday during the preliminary heats of the long jump competition at the World Track and Field Championships. After an opening round jump of 25 feet, Smith posted his best mark in the second round.

Tyrone Smith, a former All-America competitor at Missouri S&T who competed last summer at the Olympic Games in China, is getting another opportunity to perform on a big stage next week as he will participate in the World Track & Field Championships in Berlin, Germany.

S&T names Kyle Rutledge as new assistant track & field coach

Missouri S&T has announced that Kyle Rutledge, a three-time All-America performer in the pole vault at Missouri Southern State University and most recently an assistant coach at Johnson County Community College, will become the new assistant track and field coach for the S&T program. Rutledge is taking over for Bryan Schiding, who has been in the post for the last six seasons and is stepping down to take a similar role at Missouri Southern.
