The Missouri S&T men's track and field team will have two pole vaulters taking part in next week's NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships in Mankato, Minn., as juniors Jordan Henry and Jared Anders have been selected into the field for the meet.
Henry, a junior from St. Charles, Mo. (Francis Howell North High School) is making his third appearance at a national meet, having competed previously at the 2006 outdoor championships and the 2007 indoor meet. Last season, Henry placed seventh in the event with a clearance of 16-feet at the national competition in Boston.
Last weekend, Henry won the Great Lakes Valley Conference title in the event and enters the meet with a top clearance of 16-6 that he reached at a Feb. 22 meet at Central Missouri. Henry enters the meet with the fourth-best mark in the nation this season.
Anders, a junior from Quincy, Ill., earned his first national berth after going over the bar at 16-2 at Illinois College last month. He brings the ninth-best mark in the country to the meet and is coming off a second place finish at the GLVC Indoor Championships where he cleared 15-7.
The top performance in the nation this season has been from Grand Valley State's Bryant Wilson with a mark of 17-3 3/4. Missouri Southern's Jacob Williams and Ashland's Dan Tierney are the other two ranked ahead of Henry entering the meet and both have marks of better than 17-feet this season.
The pole vault competition will take place at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 15.
