JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Missouri S&T men's track and field team has competitors at two meets this weekend, with the majority of the squad taking part in the Radio Shack Invitational at Missouri Southern.
On the first night of competition, the highest finish came from Charles Melton in the 200-meters where he took fifth place in a time of 22.76 seconds. The Miners also got a ninth-place effort from Michael Wilson in a time of 23.35 and a 17th place finish from Brett Vessell in 23.69 in an event with 37 finishers.
Josh Hesse finished 12th in the weight throw with a mark of 44-9 1/2, while Jordan Henry had a leap of 21-4 in the long jump and Kal-El Waters-Jones went 20-8 1/2 in the event and Peter Hollenbeck jumped 20-1. Lucas Jaster posted a mark of 40-4 1/4 in the weight throw.
In Ames, Iowa, the Miners had two competitors taking part in the distance events Friday at the Iowa State Classic. Joffroi Holcombe posted a time of 15:09.93 in the seeded 5,000-meter run, while Grant Brown finished the unseeded 5,000 in 15:46.30.
