Lady Miner track team posts nine finishes in top 10

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The Lady Miner track and field team had nine individuals post finishes among the top 10 -- including some seasonal high marks and a school record mark by sophomore Hannah Terwelp -- at the Blue Classic Saturday at Illinois College.

Terwelp broke the school record in the weight throw that she set nearly a month ago at Eastern Illinois, with her throw of 47-4 good enough to place fourth in the overall competition.

Taylor Hahn and Jamie Statler shared the highest finish among the Lady Miners at the meet, with the duo tying for second in the pole vault with a clearance of 10-9 3/4. Leah Moreland cleared that height as well, but finished fourth due to more misses, while Sarah Zaremba was fifth at 10-4.

Kierra Handley had a third place showing in the 800-meters with a time of 2:24.13, a three-second improvement over her best seasonal time in the event.

Sarah Stach had a ninth place showing in the long jump with a mark of 15-11 1/2, while Kendra Lewis took ninth as well in the 200-meters with a time of 26.93; she also finished 11th in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.60 seconds. Aubrey Moore placed 10th in the 400-meters with a mark of 1:00.62 and Maggie Mawhiney was 11th in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.82 seconds.

Hillary Griffith was 12th in the 200-meters in 27.32 as was Samantha Schussele in the 800-meters in 2:36.49 and Terwelp in the shot put with a mark of 34-9 1/2.

The Lady Miners will compete next weekend at the Radio Shack Invitational at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.
