SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- A 13-day break in the schedule didn’t slow the Lady Miners down Wednesday night, as UMR lit up the scoreboard for its fourth-highest scoring performance in school history in a 105-78 victory over Texas A&M International in the Lady Rattler Classic at St. Mary’s University.

The Lady Miners blazed the nets at a 61.3 percent clip in the opening half, making 19-of-31 from the floor and 9-of-13 from three-point range to build a 56-34 lead by the intermission. UMR had nine different players scored in the opening half and eventually had all but one of its 13 players end up in the scoring column.

UMR never trailed in the game and went on a 17-2 run after the Dustdevils were within a point at 14-13 with 13:36 to go in the half. Jennifer Pena’s three -point basket, one of the 12 the Lady Miners connected on in the contest, gave UMR a 31-15 lead with 9:41 left in the opening half.

The Lady Miners would eventually build the lead to as much as 27 in the first 20 minutes and led at one point in the second half by 35 at 73-38 with 14:23 to play.

Pena, a Texas native who had 11 of her 13 points in the opening half, was one of six Lady Miners to score in double figures Wednesday. Katie McElrath led the way with 14 -- all of which came after the intermission -- while Chism McEntire had 12 points on four three-point baskets. UMR also got 11 points apiece from Katie Bunge, Josie Polk and Sheena Chadwell as the Lady Miner bench scored 53 of the 105 points.

Jaime Forsberg added nine points and Maria Bratcher eight as the Lady Miners finished the night with shooting percentages of 61 percent from the floor (36-of-59) and 63.2 percent from three-point range (12-of-19).

The 105 points scored by the Lady Miners were their most in a game since Jan. 22, 2000 when they beat Northwest Missouri State 100-90 in overtime. It also marked the first time that they had reached the century mark in regulation time since Nov. 23, 1998 when the Lady Miners posted a 100-49 win over Webber in Florida.

Wednesday’s scoring effort was surpassed by only three games in school history and matched a 105-point effort in a 1989 win over Lincoln. The school record is 109 which was set in 1990 in a victory over McKendree.

UMR (5-1) will face the host school, St. Mary’s, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
