Softball players land spots on NFCA Scholar-Athlete team

The University of Missouri-Rolla softball team had eight members of its 2007 team named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's All-America scholar-athlete team for the last academic year.

The Lady Miners as a team were selected as well, as the squad posted a grade point average of 3.21 during the 2006-07 academic year. UMR was one of 62 schools with a grade point average of better than 3.0.

The eight individuals including junior second baseman Kandi Wieberg, who also earned All-America honors for her play on the field, junior first baseman Rachel Wilkinson, sophomore pitchers Jen O'Hara and Kaye Wibbenmeyer, sophomore infielder Casey Wilson and three freshmen, pitcher Ashley Wallingford, infielder Becky Davis and outfielder Krista Porterfield.

For an individual to qualify, she must have a 3.5 or better grade point average for the academic year.

UMR's softball team finished the 2007 season with a 29-18 record and earned a berth to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
