The Lady Miner volleyball dropped the first of its two home matches over the Homecoming weekend on campus, falling in a 3-0 decision to No. 17-ranked Southern Illinois Edwardsville at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.

The Cougars grabbed control of the contest in the early stages of each of the three games. The Lady Miners were able to trim a 12-point SIUE lead down to seven in the first game on a kill by Lynsey Jorgenson, but the Cougars scored the next four points to regain control of the game.

UMR was within two early in the second game on a block by Jorgenson, then a combined block by Lauren Summerville and Hope Mooberry got the SIUE lead down to 14-10 before the guests were able to extend their lead.

Leandra Pelae led the way with 15 kills in the contest, while Ashlyn Balensiefer recorded 22 assists and Bridget Williams had 18 digs for UMR, which will host Quincy at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
