Miners' late rally falls short at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. -- The Miners were able to trim a two-goal deficit in half in the latter stages of the contest, but weren't able to get the equalizer before time expired as Quincy knocked off UMR 2-1 Friday night in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest.

Quincy led 2-0 until Wade Aitken-Palmer scored an unassisted goal off a restart with just under 10 minutes to play. The Miners continued to keep pressure on the Hawks after getting the goal, but couldn't get another shot past Kyle Dillman to draw even.

The Miners outshot Quincy 14-12 on the night and had six corner kicks -- all in the second half -- to the Hawks' two. Mike McNamee made three saves in goal for UMR.

Quincy got its goals from Jack Wedemeier 4:13 into play and from Brad Niemann about five minutes prior to Aitken-Palmer's goal in the second half.

The Miners will face No. 22 ranked Southern Illinois Edwardsville Sunday at 2:30 in Edwardsville, Ill.
