Lady Miners fall in three to Rockhurst
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Lady Miner volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision Saturday afternoon at Rockhurst University, as the Hawks took the games by scores of 30-13, 30-10 and 30-23 at Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse.
UMR was within three points in game one after Lynsey Jorgenson's kill made the score 9-6, but Rockhurst scored 15 of the next 18 points to pull away. The Hawks continued that run at the start of game two as well as they posted the first nine points.
The Lady Miners fell behind 7-2 to open the third game, but tied it at nine with a 5-0 run on Leandra Pelae's serve. Rockhurst regained the lead and pushed it back out to seven points, but UMR clawed back and closed to within three at 21-18. Jessica Laughary's kill made it 23-20 before Rockhurst scored three straight to go back up by six.
A kill by Samantha Klump, followed by a Rockhurst attack error and a another kill by Klump drew UMR to within three again at 26-23, but the Hawks scored the final four points of the game.
Pelae, Jorgenson and Klump all had six kills apiece for UMR, while Ashlyn Balensiefer recorded 24 assists and Bridget WIlliams finished with 14 digs.
UMR will close out its home schedule Tuesday with a game against Missouri-St. Louis at 7 p.m. at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.
