EMPORIA, Kan. -- The UMR men's track and field sent several competitors to the Emporia State Twilight Qualifier Saturday in a final effort to qualify individuals for the NCAA Division II Championships.

Although several of those competing finished with good marks in their events, none were either better than what they had already posted or were enough to reach the provisional qualifying standards to take part in the national meet over Memorial Day weekend in Charlotte, N.C.

Chris Carsten had a throw of 172-10 in the hammer throw to take third in that event and later in the meet had a throw of 53-2 3/4 in the shot put.

Jarryd Dean had his best mark of the season in the high jump, but his mark of 6-8 was short of the provisional mark of 6-9 1/2 to have a chance to make the meet. He also had a mark of 45-7 in the triple jump. In the pole vault, Lucas Handley cleared 15-7 1/4, but fell short of the provisional qualifying standard for the outdoor championships as well.

Paul Roland ran a time of 1:56.87 in the 800-meters.

The field for the national meet will be announced late Tuesday morning.
