After rain postponed the event last Friday, the University of Missouri-Rolla football team will hold its spring football game Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. The game will wrap up the spring practice session for the Miners.
Prior to the game, the UMR football team will host a punt, pass and kick competition on the field for all children ages six through 12 starting at 5 p.m. There is no charge for either the children’s competition or the game.
The Miners finished the 2006 season with a 6-5 record and had the top passing offense in NCAA Division II. The team will return two of its top wide receivers in Ashton Gronewold (Carthage, Ill.), who earned All-America honors after catching 78 passes for 1,120 yards and 15 touchdowns last fall; and Mike Greaving (St. Louis, Mo./St. Mary’s), who finished the season with 50 catches for 789 yards and five scores.
The game will also showcase the two newcomers competing for the starting quarterback job, Jason Schlueter, a transfer from Joliet Junior College and Brad Guidry, who played for junior college national champion Blinn Junior College in 2006.
The spring game will be an offense vs. defense format, with each team scoring points based on the results of each possession.
