Moore wins 800-meters at Central Missouri Classic

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The UMR women's track and field team got a winning effort from Wendy Moore Saturday to highlight its final meet prior to next weekend's Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.

Moore won the 800-meters with a time of 2:18.08, beating Missouri Southern's Alison Walker by more than a second with the second-best indoor 800 mark of her career.

Freshman Katie Bruce posted a time of 1:00.35 to take third in the 400-meters. Bruce also had a pair of eighth place efforts in the sprints, running an 8.18 in the 60 and 27.02 in the 200.

HIllary Griffith finished fourth in the 200-meters in a time of 26.54 seconds and also took seventh in the 60-meters in 8.13 seconds. Taylor Hahn also posted a fourth place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 10-feet.

Kierra Handley took fifth in the 800-meters in 2:29.02 while Kendra Lewis took sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.15 seconds; she ran an 8.07 in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals. Jamie Statler and Sarah Zaremba tied for sixth in the pole vault as each of them went over the bar at 9-6 1/4.

Kylee Hyzer had an eighth place effort in the 3,000-meters with a time of 11:05.79.

The GLVC Championships will take place Feb. 24 in Crawfordsville, Ind.
