Lady Miners have two named All-GLVC honorable mention; Miners' Taylor selected as top freshman
Nicole Dierking and Tamara McCaskill, the top two scorers for the University of Missouri-Rolla women's basketball team during the 2006-07 season, were named today to the Great Lakes Valley Conference's all-conference team as honorable mention selections.
McCaskill, a sophomore from Edwardsville, Ill., leads the Lady Miners in scoring with an average of 13.6 points per game and ranks among the conference leaders in that category and in several others. She is pulling down 5.9 rebounds a contest -- second on the Lady Miners to Dierking -- while shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 79.8 percent at the free throw line. McCaskill also leads UMR in blocked shots with 26.
Dierking, a senior from Alma, Mo., is scoring 12.5 points a game and is fourth in the GLVC in rebounding with 7.3 a contest. She is also among the top free throw shooters in the league at 82.4 percent. Dierking went over the 1,000-point mark for her career in January and will finish her playing career as a Lady MIner ranked among the top 10 all-time for points (she is currently sixth), rebounds and assists. She is second on the team in assists with 82.
Dierking has recorded seven double-doubles this season and owns the top scoring game for a UMR player with a 25-point showing in a win over Saint Joseph's in December. It is the second straight season in which Dierking has been named honorable mention by the GLVC.
Taylor, who hails from Webster Groves, Mo., averaged 9.4 points and a team-high 3.1 assists while starting all but one game at the point guard position for the Miners this year. He had the Miners' top scoring game of the season with a 27-point effort at Kentucky Wesleyan and owned a 1.1-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio during the 2006-07 season.
