FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Chances were good that Tyrone Smith was going to get to make a trip to Boston in March to compete for the NCAA Division II championship in the long jump, but on Friday night he made certain that he will be boarding a plane to the east coast at the end of the indoor track season.
Smith won the long jump at the Razorback Invitational at the University of Arkansas with a leap of 25-2 3/4 that surpassed the automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Championships. Smith edged Daryl Reeves, representing Real Deal Track Club by hitting the mark on his fifth jump of the night.
Also at Arkansas on Friday, Lucas Handley finished eighth in the pole vault with a mark of 15-5, the same height cleared by Jordan Henry as he finished 11th in the standings.
