COLUMBIA, Mo. – The UMR women’s track team opened its 2007 campaign Friday night with four finishes among the top 10 in their respective events at the University of Missouri Invitational.
The top finishes for the Lady Miners Friday came from their field event competitors, led by pole vaultlers Taylor Hahn and Jamie Statler as each of them cleared the 10-foot mark to tie for sixth in the final standings.
Wendy Moore finished eighth in the 800-meters as she recorded a time of 2:23.87, while Kylee Hyzer came in tenth place in the 3,000-meters in 11:05.91.
UMR’s 4x400-meter relay team of Moore, Kierra Handley, Katie Bruce and Hillary Griffith took fourth place with a time of 4:06.98.
Griffith, competing in her first meet for the Lady Miners, took 11th in the 200-meters in a time of 26.99. She also posted a time of 8.18 seconds in the 60-meters. Handley also had an 11th-place effort in the 800-meters with a time of 1:37.94.
One school record was set by the Lady Miners at the meet, as freshman Hannah Terwelp set the mark in the weight throw with a toss of 42-11 3/4.
UMR will compete next weekend at Central Missouri and will also send selected individuals to the University of Arkansas.
