Hahn tops school record in winning pole vault effort

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Taylor Hahn recorded the highest clearance ever for a Lady Miner in the pole vault Friday night as she won the event to highlight the UMR performances in the Central Missouri State Invitational.

Hahn cleared the bar at 10-8, the best mark ever either indoors or outdoors in school history. Her mark was six inches better than the mark of 10-2 posted by teammate Jamie Statler, who finished second in the event. Hahn has the outdoor school record in the pole vault of 10-6, which was the previous top mark in the event.

Kierra Handley had a second place effort as well in the 800-meters with a time of 2:29.50, while Kylee Hyzer claimed third in the 3,000-meters with a time of 11:05.31 and Sarah Zaremba finished fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 9-8.

Freshman Katie Bruce took fifth in two events Friday, doing so in the 200-meters with a mark of 26.82 seconds and then in the 400-meters in 1:01.78. Meanwhile, fellow freshman Megan Rodenburg made the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and took sixth in the event with a time of 10.72 seconds.

UMR got an seventh place finish from Hannah Terwelp in the weight throw at 40-2 1/4 -- she also took eighth in the shot put with a throw of 33-11 1/4 -- while Hillary Griffith took ninth in the 400-meters in 1:04.82 and later finished 11th in the 200-meters when she crossed the line in 27.43. Laura Ruf also took ninth in the 3,000 in 11:56.03.

Kendra Lewis took 10th in the 200-meters in 27.35 seconds and also finished 11th in the 60-meter dash in 8.30. Jocelyn Bailey also had a 10th-place finish in the 400-meters in 1:05.63.

UMR's 4x440-yard relay team of Bruce, Handley, Lewis and Griffith came in fourth place with a time of 4:17.06.

On Saturday, Wendy Moore had a seventh place finish in the 800-meters at the Razorback Invitational at the University of Arkansas, posting a time of 2:21.95.

The Lady Miners as a team will be idle until Feb. 2 when they compete in the Radio Shack Invitational at Missouri Southern.
