Although the Lady Miner soccer team wasn't able to make the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, the league's coaches certainly recognized the work that Brittany Parker has done in goal for the Lady Miners this season.
The senior goalkeeper from Johnston, Iowa was named to the All-GLVC first team at her position Thursday, making Parker UMR's first player to earn all-conference laurels in all four seasons at the school. Parker was a second-team selection in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association as a freshman and an honorable mention pick in her sophomore year, then earned second-team all-league honors last year in UMR's first season as a member of the GLVC.
During the 2006 season -- which will conclude for the Lady Miners Friday night when they host William Woods at 7:30 p.m. at the UMR Soccer Field -- Parker has posted a 1.45 goals against average with 76 saves and one shutout in 1,367 minutes of playing time. For the season, the Lady Miners have allowed more than two goals in a game just twice in 17 contests.
Parker has nine career shutouts, which ranks fifth on the career list at UMR, and 410 saves which is good for third on the UMR all-time list. She enters her collegiate finale with a career goals against average of 1.78.
Regular season champion Quincy swept all of the major awards given out by the GLVC, as Becky Fleming was named as the league's top offensive player and top freshman, Laura Gentry was selected as the top defensive player and coach Dave Musso earned "Coach of the Year" honors.
