Andy Held, who ranks second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in goals and points, is one of two players who have been honored by the GLVC for their play during the 2006 season.

Held was named to the All-GLVC second team Wednesday as he is in the midst of a season in which he has scored 11 times for a Miner team that will be playing in the conference tournament. Of Held's 11 goals on the season, four of them have been game-winning tallies.

Held, a redshirt freshman from Alton, Ill., has 22 points on the season with those 11 goals.

The other Miner honored was senior defender Derek Pelate, who has anchored the Miner defense throughout the year and has stood out despite missing four games with an injury. Pelate, who is from Edwardsville, Ill., also has a goal and two assists on the season and was named to the All-GLVC team as an honorable mention selection.

Bojan Jovicic of Wisconsin-Parkside, the fourth-ranked scorer in NCAA Division II, was named as the league's offensive "Player of the Year," while Southern Illinois Edwardsville midfielder John Matthews was named as the defensive "Player of the Year." Northern Kentucky gained the other two major awards, as forward Braden Bishop was named as the league's top freshman and John Basalyga was selected as the "Coach of the Year."

UMR, the No. 6 seed for this weekend's conference tournament, will play at Truman State Friday at 2 p.m. before opening GLVC Tournament play Sunday at UW-Parkside in a noon contest.
