INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Lady Miner soccer team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end Sunday as Indianapolis' Sarah Jones scored in the 69th minute to give the Greyhounds a 2-1 win over UMR in the Great Lakes Valley Conference finale for both teams.
The Lady Miners were trying to spoil the Greyhounds' hopes of hosting a home game in the conference tournament and were able to get the score tied on Janine Einhellig's goal late in the first half, but Jones was able to redirect a crossing pass from Alli Opfer to break the 1-1 deadlock.
Indianapolis grabbed a 1-0 lead Ashley Seehase's goal at 24:42, but Einhellig took advantage of a misplay by the Greyhounds on a free kick, as the ball bounced in the box and she got a head on it to get it past Abby Tracy.
The Greyhounds had a 12-4 edge in shots on the afternoon; UMR goalkeeper Brittany Parker was able to make four saves in the contest for UMR, which fell to 3-13-1 overall and ended its second year of GLVC play with a 3-8-1 mark.
UMR finished in 10th place in the 14-team league race, an improvement of three spots over last year.
The Lady Miners will finish the 2006 season Friday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against William Woods at the UMR Soccer Complex.
