WILDER, Ky. -- One of these days, the Lady Miner soccer team is going to catch a break and land that elusive victory.
Continuing its journey through a rugged early schedule, UMR was able to keep highly-touted Northern Kentucky off the scoreboard for better than 61 minutes Friday night, but a second half goal by Jayme Light allowed the Norse to escape with a 1-0 win over the Lady Miners in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
Light took a pass from Amy Law and put it past UMR goalkeeper Brittany Parker for the only goal of the contest at the 61:04 mark. Parker played well in spite of allowing the goal, making six saves on the night to keep UMR in the contest.
However, the Lady Miners were outshot 18-5 in the game and the Norse (5-2, 3-2 GLVC) had seven corner kicks in the contest to UMR's two. The Lady Miners got two shots on net, one each by Erin Rouse and Rachel Moore, but both were turned away by NKU keeper Kelly Bare.
The Lady Miners, who dropped their seventh straight game -- the seven teams have a combined record of 35-7-3 --and second in two GLVC contests, will conclude their road trip Sunday with a 2:30 p.m. (Eastern time) game at Bellarmine (5-2, 4-1 GLVC). UMR will then return home to christen their new field with a game Wednesday against Southern Illinois Edwardsville.
