The Lady Miners were shut out Friday night -- but came away from the contest with some satisfaction for a change.
Thanks to some solid play by senior goalkeeper Brittany Parker and the defensive unit, the Lady Miners played Drury to a 0-0 tie Friday night at the UMR Soccer Field. The result ended a frustrating 10-game losing streak for UMR.
Parker made five saves in goal, including one on a penalty kick by Laura Adams in the final minute of the first half to keep the contest scoreless at the half. Earlier in the period, she made an initial stop on a shot, only to have the ball trickle past her and get cleared off the end line by the UMR defense.
The Lady MIner defense made a similar play in the second half to keep the game tied.
UMR had 15 shots in the game to Drury's 17 and had eight on goal. However, DU goalkeeper Barri Bulla turned away all of the attempts, including the only shot on net in the overtime session.
UMR (0-10-1 overall, 0-5-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) will return to action Sunday when it travels to Kansas City to face Rockhurst in a 2:30 p.m. game. The Hawks (6-5-1, 5-3 GLVC) lost 1-0 to visiting MIssouri-St. Louis Friday.
