JOPLIN, Mo. -- The UMR women's cross country team finished in 19th place -- roughly the middle of the pack -- at the highly competitive Southern Stampede Saturday at Missouri Southern State University.
The meet had 34 full teams, including a handful of NCAA Division I schools, in the field. On the course, UMR's top five runners had an average time of 20:03 over five kilometers.
Freshman Silvey Britton was UMR's top performer with an 81st place finish among the 286 runners in the race. Britton had a time of 19:39, seven seconds better than teammate Laura Ruf who came in 90th place. Kierra Handley was the third Lady Miner to cross the finish line in 110th place in 20:04, followed by Dana Narconis in 20:10 and Kylee Hyzer in a time of 20:38.
Harding won the team competition with a score of 56 as it had three of the top 11 scorers in the meet.
UMR's next competition is scheduled for Sept. 30 at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago.
