LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Miner soccer team fell for the first time in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Sunday as Bellarmine got an early goal and a late one to beat UMR by a count of 2-0.

The Knights (5-4, 3-3 GLVC) got a goal in the tenth minute of play from Kieran Potterton when he redirected a free kick from Phil Glaser for what turned out to be the only goal Bellarmine would need.

UMR (4-4, 2-1 GLVC) and Bellarmine played on fairly even terms in the opening half, with the Knights holding a 6-5 edge in shots, but BU controlled play in that regard after halftime as it had eight shots to UMR's two.

The Knights added an insurance goal at the 78:03 mark when Ryan Coffey got loose on a breakaway and fed Andrew Coverstone for the second tally of the contest.

UMR goalkeeper Mike McNamee was credited with three saves in the game.

The Miners will return home to play their first game at their new facility Friday, hosting Lewis (7-1, 5-1 GLVC) in a 5 p.m. game. The Flyers handed Southern Illinois Edwardsville its first loss in GLVC play Sunday with a 1-0 win.
