The Lady Miner defense gave up its first goal on the field this season Wednesday night -- and unfortunately for UMR, it turned out to be the only goal of the game as Southwest Baptist came away with a 1-0 win over the Lady Miners at the UMR Soccer Complex.

Adrienne Johnson got free and blasted home a shot from just inside the 18-yard line 24:07 into the game to give SBU the only goal it would need. The Lady Miners outshot the Lady Bearcats in the first half, but managed to get only four shots at the net in the final 45 minutes at SBU goalkeeper Kelsey Lueckenhoff. The best chance came when Danielle Lyman hit a shot off the post with just over 15 minutes to play. UMR goalkeeper Brittany Parker was credited with seven saves in the contest. The Lady Miners (0-2), who had allowed two goals on penalty kicks in their opening game loss, will try to break into the win column Friday night when they host Saginaw Valley State in a 7:30 p.m. game at the UMR Soccer Complex.
